I had a special request from a dear subscriber. She was looking for sources for royal blue dresses that flatter full hourglass to pear shapes. Get the cliffnotes version for free in the resource library, download deets below!
Edited 8/14/18 Polyvore is no more so sadly I lost all of my great boards:( I'm currently looking for an alternative website to come up with more style boards.
I've put together a little Polyvore style board of a few dresses that fit the bill. I chose a mix of short, long and different formalities.
An hourglass figure has a balanced bust and hip with a smaller defined waist. This figure is often thought of as the "ideal figure." Dresses that flatter an hourglass will define the waist and either skim over the fuller bust and hip or accentuate them in a positive way. Even a fuller hourglass figure will be highlighted with an emphasis at her smallest part of her waist. Think of a sash, belt, asymmetrical waist drape or detail. V-neck and scoop necklines tend to be the most flattering especially for full busted hourglasses.
On the other hand the figure type commonly called a pear has a fuller hip and/or thigh. There can often be quite a large difference between the bust and hip of a woman with a pear body type. A pear usually has a well defined waistline as well. Dresses that will flatter a woman with a more bottom heavy silhouette are ones that skim or drape beautifully on the lower half. Bringing up the focus point to the top 1/3 to 1/2 of a pear shaped women will help visually balance the top and bottom. Think of details up and around the shoulders and bust. Necklines that work well for pears include jewel, halter, high scoop and off the shoulder.
