Use these simple tips to look your best. Picture your favorite outfit. The one you always reach to when you need to impress. Chances are this outfit fits and flatters. When you feel good, you look good. Now let’s take it a step further. Take a more critical look and really see what it is about this outfit that appeals to you. Is it the color? Style? How it makes your legs look endless? After you figure out what makes that outfit great, translate that into your other clothing. If it’s the great color that brings out your eyes, look to add accessories in that color to expand your wardrobe.
The first step to great posture is remember to keep your head high! Don’t look down, not only does this strain your back, it also makes you look less confident. Rotate your shoulders slightly down and back. Most people (especially those that work at a computer all day) carry tension in their shoulders, and hunch their shoulders up toward their ears. Work on relaxing your shoulders and neck. Keep your back straight and feet a comfortably distance apart. Relax your legs and arms while maintaining good posture. Proper alignment not only makes your body feel better, it also makes you look slimmer!
Match your shoes to the mood and style of the rest of your outfit. Keep in mind the closer you match your shoe to your “leg” color, the longer your legs will look. So if you’re wearing a long, black skirt; a black shoe or boot will make the line of your legs look longer than if you wore a contrasting shoe. Colors don’t have to match exactly, but the closer you get them, the better the leg line. A slight point at the front of the shoe will also elongate the leg. A heel will also help do the same thing.
Accessories are one of the easiest ways to brighten up an outfit. The right combination of jewelry can bring the focus up and away from trouble spots and right where the focus should be; your beautiful face. Also think about your best features. Have a tiny waist? Add a contrast belt to highlight. Have an elegant neck? Try wrapping a scarf around it.
Number five may be the most important tip of all! Wear the right undergarments. If it’s been over a year since your last bra fitting, schedule one today. Weight loss, weight gain, hormones, pregnancy and many other factors can really change your bra size. If you’re a D or above cup I recommend scheduling a fitting at a higher end department store or specialty bra shop. These places have specially trained fitting experts that not only measure you, but can make recommendations on the type of undergarments to fit your lifestyle and clothing. The type of undergarments for your lower half can vary drastically by the type of clothing you will be wearing. Keep in mind the more formal the outfit, the more structured your undergarments should be. Think of a formal gown, depending on the style you may need a strapless bustier, panties, and a crinoline. Contrast that with the type of undergarments you would typically wear under say a jogging suit.
